Darling design but impossible to get the dough out of the cutter.

Owner Response: The trick with a cutter with inset details is to make your dough a scant 1/8 inch thick so that the detail just imprints the dough and does not actually cut the dough. Dough will then not get stuck in the cutter as it has just imprinted the surface of the dough and is not actually all up in the detail of the cutter.

I am a Hammersong cutter fan and loved these owls. With the Hammersong cuttes, the dough comes off the board in the cutter and I use the back of a spatula to thump the dough onto the cookie sheet. THIS cutter did fine for one year and then this year the small owl's forehead v popped out. The construction is not a sturdy as Hammersong construction so I'll be more careful with the NEW owl cutters from this source. They are very cute and decorate beautiufully.

Owner Response: This cutter is not made by Hammersong. This cutter is imported from Germany. If a cutter is flexed too strongly the weld points of the cutter detail can fail. Please always let us know if a product does not perform as expected.

These are NOT easy to work with, but, with persistence, I have a technique that works. Roll the cookie dough between two sheets of wax paper. You WANT the dough to stick to the bottom sheet, so don't put too much flour down. I roll my dough 1/8 inch, much thinner than usually advised. Then, flour the top of the dough heavily, and cut out the cookie. You don't want the dough to come off the wax paper into the cutter, or all is lost. Take a big, heavily floured spatula to remove the dough from the wax paper. Worked like a charm. Well worth the effort. Freeze the cut-out cookies before baking. Blow the excess flour off the tops of the cookies. It took some time to figure this out. These cutters are well-made and beautifully designed. Love them!

I spent two...three recipes and a call to Fancy Flours and the small owls eyes/face would not cut out. This was to be for my granddaughters soriety....what a ssd experiences
